ELECTION SECURITY: Israel Extends Emergency Status Amid Fears Of An Attack
The government approved extending the special state of emergency on the Home Front across Israel until November 3, after the scheduled election date. The decision was based on security officials’ assessment that there remains a high likelihood of an attack on civilians, particularly amid uncertainty surrounding Iran and Lebanon.
A document presented to ministers said that, despite the ceasefire with Iran and the announced ceasefire on the northern front, security officials believe fighting could resume. The existing emergency declaration was set to expire on October 20; the extension also requires approval from the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
The declaration gives security officials authority to issue civil defense instructions, restrict gatherings and set guidelines for institutions and services. Extending it does not automatically change the public’s current instructions; any measures depend on the security assessment.
Separately, CNN reported that the U.S. military has prepared new strike plans against Iran in case President Donald Trump orders a resumption of hostilities. The reported plans include strikes on energy infrastructure and nuclear sites, with the possible use of the nearly 10-ton GBU-43/B, known as the MOAB or “Mother of All Bombs.” The report said there are questions about whether the bomb could achieve strategic objectives or change the course of the conflict.
