SISI RESPONDS: Egyptian President Denies Plans For War With Israel After Smotrich’s Sinai Warning
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said Wednesday that Cairo has no intention of launching a war against Israel, responding to Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s warning that “if Egypt attacks us, there will be no Sinai.”
Speaking at an event marking 53 years since the Yom Kippur War, Sisi denied that Egypt harbors offensive intentions or territorial ambitions toward Israel.
“Who told you that we want to fight?” Sisi asked. “We have no ambitions toward anyone. Our land is in our hands. We fought to recover it, and that is over.”
The Egyptian president also rejected suggestions that Cairo has undisclosed plans, saying, “We have no secret agenda.”
Sisi sought to address Israeli concerns by questioning whether fears rooted in decades of conflict continued to shape perceptions of Egypt’s intentions.
“Are you still holding on to the fears of the past 60 years? Do you still think I have ambitions toward something you possess? No,” he said.
“I have only one ambition: to protect my country, its borders, and its land.”
