Moxie is making its return as the restaurant is slated to open at 25001 Cedar Road at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst on Oct. 26.
Local restaurateurs Brad Friedlander and Michael DuBois’ American-style cuisine eating establishment was formerly located at 3355 Richmond Road in Beachwood, opening in 1998 and closing in April 2019.
The new Moxie will honor the restaurant’s legacy while introducing the concept to a new generation of diners. The menu reflects the fresh, seasonal cooking for which Moxie became known, blending returning signature dishes with new offerings rooted in made-from-scratch preparation, high-quality ingredients and thoughtful execution, according to a news release.
Plans were to reopen Moxie in 2024 at 16 N Main St. in Chagrin Falls, but those plans changed as Friedlander decided to pivot and convert the space in a new concept called Odd Fellows, run by the pair. Former customers have been asking Friedlander to reopen Moxie as it was a “Cleveland fixture for years and years,” according to previous CJN reporting.
With all of the original recipes in hand, the pair of restaurateurs purchased that space in Legacy Village that previously housed Bar Louie.
“I opened Moxie in 1998, and it quickly emerged as a standout in the Cleveland culinary landscape, including recognition by Esquire magazine as one of the best new restaurants in the country,” Friedlander said in the release. “Ever since our closure in 2019, patrons have continually asked about their favorite dishes and recipes. We are thrilled to bring Moxie back and welcome guests through our doors once again.”
The relaunch is rooted in a shared commitment to the core fundamentals that built Moxie’s legacy: exceptional food, genuine hospitality and a consistently elevated dining experience, the release said, and patrons will recognize the culinary philosophy that shaped the original Moxie while the new space is designed for today’s dining landscape with a polished and sophisticated touch coupled with a welcoming and approachable environment.
“Partnering with Brad was an easy decision because we share a passion for true hospitality,” DuBois said in the release. “Quality ingredients and superior service are first and foremost for both of us, and we are committed to delivering the same seasonal classics and high standard of service that Moxie patrons remember and deserve.”
Following Moxie’s opening, Friedlander and DuBois will debut The Seven, a speakeasy located adjacent to the restaurant. Designed around privacy, sophistication, and bespoke service, The Seven will feature craft cocktails, an elevated dining menu, private spirit lockers and curated nightlife experiences, according to the release.
Additional details and the official opening date for The Seven will be announced in the coming weeks.
