Village of Hillburn Mayor Joseph Tursi Announces Resignation, Citing Plans to Relocate
Hillburn Mayor Joseph P. Tursi has announced his resignation from office, effective October 30, 2026, citing his upcoming relocation to another area.
In a formal resignation letter dated Wednesday, October 21, addressed to the Village Board of Trustees and Hillburn residents, Tursi said he was stepping down with mixed emotions after having the honor of serving the community as mayor.
“Serving as Mayor has been a tremendous honor and privilege,” Tursi wrote, expressing his gratitude to residents for the trust, support, and confidence they placed in him throughout his time in office.
Tursi explained that his decision to resign was prompted by his plans to relocate, which will prevent him from continuing in his position.
Despite his departure, the outgoing mayor emphasized his appreciation for the Hillburn community and expressed pride in the accomplishments achieved during his time in office.
He also thanked his fellow Village Board members, municipal employees, community organizations, and residents for their cooperation, encouragement, and dedication to the village.
“I remain confident that the community will continue to move forward and build upon the progress we have made,” Tursi stated.
The mayor pledged to do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition and assist with transferring responsibilities before his departure at the end of the month.
Tursi concluded his letter by describing his time as mayor as one of the greatest honors of his public service and wishing the Village Board and Hillburn residents continued success in the years ahead.
The announcement leaves the Village of Hillburn preparing for a leadership transition, with Tursi’s resignation set to take effect in just over a week. The letter did not specify who would assume the mayor’s responsibilities following his departure.
