UPDATE: Village of Spring Valley to Activate Union Road and Morris Road Traffic Signal Monday Morning for 60-Day Trial Period
The Village of Spring Valley has announced that the new traffic signal at the intersection of Union Road and Morris Road will officially go live on Monday October 26th at 7:00 a.m., beginning a 60-day trial period to determine whether the signal improves traffic conditions at the busy intersection.
Village officials acknowledge that the area experiences heavy traffic volumes and that the existing roadway was simply not designed to accommodate the number of vehicles traveling through it daily.
The Village Board understands that residents have differing opinions about the new traffic signal and recognizes that no single solution will satisfy everyone. Rather than making a permanent decision immediately, officials have decided to test the signal for 60 days, allowing time to evaluate traffic patterns, congestion, and overall effectiveness.
Under the planned signal timing, Union Road traffic will receive approximately one minute of green light time, while Morris Road traffic will receive approximately 20 seconds. Motorists turning while the light is green must continue yielding to pedestrians.
Village officials emphasized that traffic improvements cannot be judged based on just one day of operation. The trial period will allow the village to determine whether the signal improves traffic flow or creates additional congestion before deciding on the best long-term solution for the intersection.
