CORRUPTION INVESTIGATION: Likud Minister May Golan Questioned By Police In Bribery Case
Israeli Social Equality Minister May Golan was questioned under caution Wednesday by investigators from the Lahav 433 national police unit as authorities continue examining allegations of bribery, fraud and breach of trust involving her ministry.
Golan, a member of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Likud party, appeared at the police unit’s offices in Lod after previously declining to attend questioning sessions over an extended period.
The investigation concerns suspicions that public funds were improperly used for private purposes and that fictitious employment positions were arranged for associates and relatives of influential supporters. Investigators are also examining allegations involving false declarations and other financial irregularities.
Police had previously completed much of their investigation and transferred the case to prosecutors. The State Attorney’s Office requested additional investigative work, including an opportunity for Golan to respond to the evidence before prosecutors decide whether to file charges. Golan has maintained that she acted properly.
