QUICK THINKING: 9-Year-Old in Kedumim Spots Missile Fuel Tank, Alerts Father and Helps Prevent Potential Disaster

Oct 22, 2026·2 min read

A nine-year-old boy from Kedumim in Shomron helped prevent a potential disaster Tuesday after spotting a suspicious object near the community and immediately alerting his father.

The boy was walking near Kedumim when he noticed an unidentified object in a field. He kept his distance and informed his father, who contacted the community’s security hotline.

IDF troops and police arrived and identified the object as a missile fuel tank left in the area during the war with Iran. Security forces safely removed it, and no injuries were reported.

Kedumim Council head Ozel Vatik praised the child’s response, noting that the discovery came just one week after a deadly tragedy in northern Israel.

“The nine-year-old boy from Kedumim showed exemplary civic responsibility,” Vatik said. “He did not put himself at risk, kept his distance and reported it immediately.”

Vatik urged parents to review safety instructions with their children and make sure they understand how to respond if they encounter an unfamiliar or suspicious object.

The council warned that dangerous objects could still be found in and around Kedumim, including remnants from the war with Iran and explosive devices planted by terrorists.

Residents were instructed never to touch or move suspicious objects, to move away and keep others at a safe distance, and to immediately notify security forces.
