SUSPECTED HATE CRIME: Orthodox Jewish Man Attacked With Needle Or Syringe By Woman In Manhattan

Oct 22, 2026·2 min read

A Jewish man from Crown Heights was attacked from behind Wednesday afternoon in Midtown Manhattan by a woman suspected of being emotionally disturbed, in an incident being investigated as a possible antisemitic hate crime.

The attack occurred at approximately 5:30 PM near 15 West 47th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, when a woman believed to be in her 30s allegedly approached the visibly Jewish victim from behind and stabbed him with what is believed to have been a needle or syringe.

Sources familiar with the incident say the victim was not the first Jewish person the suspect allegedly attempted to attack. The woman reportedly passed numerous other pedestrians who were not visibly identifiable as Jewish without targeting them, raising concerns that she was deliberately selecting victims based on their Jewish appearance.

The incident is being investigated as a suspected hate crime, particularly because the victim was visibly identifiable as an Orthodox Jew through his clothing.

The victim was treated at the scene by Hatzalah volunteers before being transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect, described as a white woman approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, was reportedly wearing a shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers, with a dark sweater tied around her waist.

She reportedly fled westbound toward Sixth Avenue following the attack. Detectives and Manhattan Shomrim are searching for the suspect.
