IRAN TENSIONS: Israeli Air Force Steps Up Training Amid Growing Fears Of Renewed War
The Israeli Air Force has significantly increased fighter jet training exercises over the past two weeks amid growing concerns that Israel and the United States could soon resume military operations against Iran, according to reports Thursday.
Senior Israeli security officials believe the likelihood of another confrontation with Tehran is increasing as diplomatic efforts remain stalled. The IDF is preparing for the possibility of extensive strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, ballistic missile production sites, and other strategic military infrastructure.
A senior security official told Walla that the prospects of renewed fighting are becoming increasingly likely as time passes.
“As time goes on, we will have to go through a confrontation with Iran. Everything could change, but between a reality in which we reach an agreement with Iran or launch an attack, the likelihood of war is increasing,” the official said.
According to security assessments, a final decision on military action is unlikely before Israel’s October 27 elections and will be made in close coordination with Washington.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz are reportedly determined to pursue the collapse of the Iranian regime, while President Donald Trump has opposed launching another major offensive before the November 3 U.S. midterm elections.
According to the Financial Times, the IDF had prepared for a large-scale bombing campaign over the weekend of October 10, involving several days of strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, power stations, and other strategic infrastructure.
Israeli military planners have since updated their target bank to include additional facilities that were not attacked during previous operations.
Meanwhile, Fox News reported that Israeli fighter jets flew eastward over Syria and Iraq during an overnight exercise between Monday and Tuesday, apparently rehearsing a potential operation against Iran.
Reports from local sources cited by Middle East Eye also described Israeli fighter jets operating over southern Syria and Iraq’s southern Muthanna province.
The senior security official said the IDF is conducting continuous assessments involving its various military branches and U.S. Central Command, with coordination and intelligence updates taking place daily.
“We are prepared for all scenarios in coordination with the United States and countries in the region,” the official said.
Israeli security officials are also closely monitoring Iran’s regional proxies, particularly Hezbollah, amid concerns that Tehran could pressure its allies to join another confrontation.
According to the report, Israel has delivered stern warnings to the Lebanese government to restrain Hezbollah, making clear that any renewed attacks from Lebanon would trigger a severe Israeli response.
The heightened preparations follow reports that the IDF and U.S. military have completed detailed operational plans for renewed strikes against Iran, potentially targeting nuclear installations, energy infrastructure, missile stockpiles, and drone facilities.
