ELECTION INTERFERENCE: Shin Bet Removes Foreign-Linked Social Media Accounts Ahead Of Israeli Elections
Israel’s Shin Bet security agency announced Thursday that multiple social media accounts identified as part of a foreign influence campaign have been removed ahead of the country’s October 27 elections. Israeli media reports.
The operation was carried out jointly with the Cyber Department of the State Attorney’s Office and the Central Elections Committee.
According to the Shin Bet, the accounts were believed to be part of an attempt by outside actors to improperly influence the upcoming vote through online activity and coordinated messaging.
The security agency did not identify the country or organization behind the suspected effort, nor did it disclose how many accounts were removed.
Officials also did not specify which political themes or candidates were targeted, but the announcement underscores growing concern over digital interference and the vulnerability of election-related discourse online.
The move comes as Israel enters the final days of a hard-fought national campaign in which both domestic political tensions and regional security concerns are playing a major role.
