ELECTION ALERT: Israeli Police Prepare For Possible Knesset Breach, Stress No Specific Threat

Oct 22, 2026·2 min read

Israel Police will deploy more than 20,000 officers and volunteers for Election Day, with reserve forces preparing for potential unrest after polling stations close.

Among the scenarios being considered is an attempt to storm the Knesset, similar to the breach of the U.S. Capitol. Police emphasized, however, that there is no specific intelligence indicating that such an attack is being planned.

“We are taking such a scenario into account, even though there is no information that it is going to materialize,” said Commander Elad Klein, head of the police Operations Department.

“The Capitol incident in the United States happened some time after the elections ended, but we are preparing for similar scenarios here as well. Here, it is not Capitol Hill—it is the Knesset.”

Police will also operate a special command center to address false information circulating on social media. Officers will secure polling stations, protect the integrity of the voting process and respond to public disturbances.

The deployment includes preparations for terrorist threats and coordination with other security agencies to protect candidates.

Klein said the heightened preparations are intended to ensure that voting proceeds normally, while leaving police ready to respond to unusual developments during the evening.

“The current election campaign is very sensitive, and we are aware of that,” he said. “That is why we are concentrating substantial reserve forces that will operate particularly from the evening onward.”

“We currently have no information that any particular group intends to disturb the peace or do anything more extreme, but we are prepared for such a scenario.”
