MAJOR POLICY SHIFT: AIPAC Ends Direct Campaign Contributions To Congressional Candidates After Five Years
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee has informed members that it will stop directly endorsing congressional candidates and making campaign contributions through its political action committee, marking a significant change in the organization’s political strategy. Multiple outlets in the Jewish and political press report.
AIPAC leadership said the organization will instead focus on directing contributions from individual supporters to pro-Israel candidates.
The shift does not mean the group is withdrawing from elections. Its affiliated United Democracy Project super PAC will continue operating and spending money on congressional races, though federal law bars super PACs from coordinating directly with campaigns.
United Democracy Project has already spent tens of millions of dollars during the current election cycle, making it one of the most active political spending organizations in the country.
Before launching its PAC and super PAC in 2021, AIPAC largely concentrated on grassroots advocacy and encouraging political giving by private individuals rather than intervening directly as an institutional donor.
The decision comes amid a more difficult political environment for the organization, with criticism emerging from multiple directions and some candidates preferring to avoid public alignment with AIPAC even while backing strong U.S.-Israel ties.
