The Congers Fire Department is mourning the passing of Past Chief and President William “Bill” Moreno, a longtime member who dedicated more than six decades of his life to serving the department and the community.

Moreno joined the Congers Fire Department in 1960 and recently marked his 65th year of service. He served as Fire Chief from 1980 to 1981 and held numerous leadership positions throughout his career, including Commissioner, President, Safety Officer, Treasurer, Secretary, and member of the Board of Directors.

His commitment to volunteer firefighting was part of a remarkable family tradition spanning four generations. His father, Joseph Moreno, served as Chief from 1951 to 1952. His son, Vincent, is also a member of the department, while his granddaughter, Quinn, recently joined, continuing the family’s longstanding dedication to serving the Congers community.

In announcing his passing, the Congers Fire Department remembered Moreno for his decades of dedication, leadership, and commitment to public service, extending condolences to his family, friends, and fellow firefighters.
