Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman visited the home of the Munkatcher Rebbe on Thursday as part of a series of visits to Jewish communities ahead of Election Day on November 3.
During the meeting, the Munkatcher Rebbe expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in antisemitism across the United States, drawing a chilling comparison to the situation facing European Jewry in the years preceding the Holocaust.
“Did you expect, five years ago, that antisemitism was going to be a problem in the United States? I just know that in Germany in 1930 it was the same story. This is why we all support you: besides the fact that you are qualified, we must have you,” the Rebbe told Blakeman.
Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, is challenging Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul in the upcoming election.
The visit was part of Blakeman’s outreach to Jewish communities across New York as the gubernatorial campaign enters its final days.
