IRAN SHOWDOWN: Trump Weighs Major Military Offensive After Midterm Elections

Oct 23, 2026·2 min read

President Donald Trump is reportedly considering a major military offensive against Iran immediately after the November 3 congressional midterm elections, with potential targets including nuclear facilities, missile stockpiles and strategic energy infrastructure.

The operation under consideration would involve several days of intensive strikes aimed at dealing a significant blow to Tehran’s military capabilities and potentially destabilizing the ayatollah regime.

After focusing in recent months on tightening economic pressure against Iran, Trump is reportedly becoming more receptive to advisers advocating military action. Potential targets include Iranian nuclear sites, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps missile and drone depots, power stations and oil storage facilities.

Some in the president’s circle reportedly believe that combining a concentrated military campaign with the economic pressure already bearing down on Tehran could help bring about a change of regime. That remains an assessment of what such an operation might accomplish, rather than a guaranteed outcome.

The possible timing reflects Trump’s reported reluctance to enter a major military confrontation immediately before Americans head to the polls. An offensive after the election would remove the immediate electoral consideration from the decision.

Economic concerns are also weighing on the calculations. Oil prices climbed sharply Thursday, and a broad military campaign against Iran could send prices even higher, particularly if energy infrastructure becomes a central target.

The report follows a separate account earlier this week that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu sought Trump’s approval for an Israeli strike against Iran on October 10, before the upcoming elections in both Israel and the United States. Trump reportedly blocked the initiative at that time.

The latest account describes an option under consideration; it does not indicate that Trump has issued a final order to launch the offensive.
