ELECTION TRAVEL: Israel Announces Free Intercity Buses And Trains For Election Day

Oct 23, 2026·2 min read

Israel will offer free travel on eligible intercity bus routes and Israel Railways services beginning Monday evening and continuing through the end of service on Tuesday, Election Day.

The Central Elections Committee and Transportation Ministry announced that the arrangement will take effect at 8 p.m. Monday and will be available to the general public.

The free bus service covers designated intercity routes longer than 15 kilometers. Passengers boarding participating routes will not need to present identification or obtain a ticket.

Train passengers will need to collect a designated free travel ticket from station service counters or ticket machines.

Israel Railways emphasized that police restrictions limit passenger numbers on services to and from Jerusalem. Each passenger must therefore obtain a travel voucher in advance for the specific train they intend to take.

Additional service will operate between Jerusalem’s Yitzchak Navon station and Tel Aviv from noon until 8 p.m., with three trains per hour in each direction instead of the usual two.

The additional hourly train will begin or end its journey at Tel Aviv HaHagana station.

Travel to and from Eilat requires a separate eligibility check and advance registration through Egged’s information center at *2800.

Passengers seeking information about which intercity bus routes are included in the free travel arrangement can contact the Transportation Ministry’s information center at *8787.

Train passengers are advised to check service updates through the Israel Railways website or app, its customer service hotline at *5770, or its official WhatsApp channel.
