DIPLOMATIC DISPUTE: Netanyahu Reportedly Moves Against Britain Over Sanctions On Israeli Communities

Oct 24, 2026·2 min read

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has reportedly ordered a change in Israel’s position regarding the Falkland Islands dispute between Britain and Argentina, in an apparent response to British sanctions targeting Jewish communities in Yehuda and Shomron.

According to a report published by Britain’s Telegraph newspaper, Netanyahu instructed Israeli diplomats to support Argentina’s call for direct negotiations with Britain over the future of the disputed islands.

The reported move comes amid deteriorating relations between Yerushalayim and London, following the British government’s decision to impose sanctions on Israeli communities in Yehuda and Shomron.

Netanyahu, who maintains close ties with Argentine President Javier Milei, reportedly decided to reconsider Israel’s longstanding position on the Falkland Islands as part of a broader diplomatic response to Britain.

However, the reported shift does not mean Israel has formally recognized Argentina’s claim to sovereignty over the islands. Instead, Israel would support Buenos Aires’ demand for negotiations over their future.

The development has raised concerns that Israel could eventually offer Argentina stronger diplomatic backing if Britain introduces additional sanctions against Israeli communities.

Relations between Israel and Britain have already deteriorated significantly, with the diplomatic dispute reportedly leading to a reduction in the status of the British consulate and the expulsion of most of its staff.

Meanwhile, Argentina continues pursuing its territorial claims through legal channels, including efforts to halt oil and gas exploration north of the Falkland Islands.

The dispute has also attracted attention following remarks made by President Donald Trump in September, which reportedly raised questions about whether Washington would support Britain in a future confrontation over the islands.

An official familiar with the matter claimed that the wording of Israel’s proposed statement had received approval from the highest levels of the Israeli government.

“This is the first time Israel has become involved in this dispute,” the official said.

However, Israel’s Foreign Ministry strongly denied the report, insisting that no change in policy had been authorized.

“The report is incorrect. There has been no change in our position on the matter,” the ministry said.

The conflicting accounts leave uncertainty over whether Netanyahu intends to use the Falkland Islands dispute as diplomatic leverage against Britain or whether Israel will maintain its existing position.
