Rockland County To Illuminate Buildings Green In Honor Of Veterans, Offering Free Green Light Bulbs To Residents

Oct 25, 2026·2 min read

Rockland County will once again participate in Operation Green Light, illuminating two county buildings in green from November 4 through November 11 in recognition of veterans and their service to the nation.

The Allison-Parris Building on New Hempstead Road in New City and Building A at the Pomona Health Complex off Route 45 will be lit green as part of the nationwide initiative, which aims to show appreciation for veterans, raise awareness of the challenges they and their families face, and highlight available support services.

“We cannot thank our veterans enough for something often taken for granted — our freedom,” said Rockland County Executive Ed Day. “For all who chose to serve and protect our liberties, we hope our participation in Operation Green Light serves as a reminder that we do not take your sacrifice lightly.”

Rockland County Veterans Service Agency Director Susan Branam encouraged residents to participate by displaying green lights outside their homes and businesses during Veterans Day week.

“I think that anytime our veterans can feel like they are not alone it is a powerful and worthwhile message,” Branam said. “My hope is that all the County is lit up with green lights this Veterans Day week, so the message is loud and clear that this community supports our heroes.”

To encourage community participation, the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency is distributing free green light bulbs to residents while supplies last. Bulbs can be picked up Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the agency’s office at 20 Squadron Boulevard, Suite 101, in New City.

Residents are encouraged to replace an exterior light with a green bulb so neighbors and passing motorists can see the display, sending a visible message of appreciation and support to those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
