Oct 25, 2026·2 min read

A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the stabbing of a 26-year-old Crown Heights Chabad bochur in Midtown Manhattan earlier this week, Manhattan Shomrim announced on Motzei Shabbos.

The woman is suspected of involvement in two assaults on Wednesday that are being investigated as possible hate crimes.

The arrest followed a coordinated investigation involving the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force, Manhattan Shomrim, Crown Heights Shomrim, and Queens Shomrim, with assistance from members of the public who provided information about the suspect.

Manhattan Shomrim announced that “Thanks to the tireless dedication of our members working alongside the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force, our partners at Crown Heights Shomrim and Queens Shomrim, and the crucial tips called in to our hotline by the public, the suspect wanted for Wednesday’s two hate crime assaults in Midtown Manhattan is now in custody.”

The incident occurred Wednesday shortly before 6:00 p.m. near West 47th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan’s Diamond District.

The victim, identified as Yosef, was walking through the area when a woman allegedly followed him before stabbing him in the lower back with a sharp object believed to have been a needle or syringe.

He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he received treatment before being released.

Surveillance footage showed the suspect following the visibly Jewish man before approaching him from behind. The woman was also reportedly seen approaching another Jewish man shortly before the attack.

Despite the frightening incident, Yosef returned to the Diamond District the following day to continue his regular Mivtzoim activities, helping Jewish businessmen and workers put on tefillin and encouraging them to perform mitzvos.

Manhattan Shomrim thanked the public for providing tips that assisted investigators in locating the suspect.

The suspect’s identity and details of any formal charges have not yet been publicly released.
