SECURITY ALERT: Two German Nationals Arrested Near Israeli Prison After Photographing Security Facilities
Two German nationals were arrested overnight Sunday outside Damon Prison on Mount Carmel after they were spotted photographing the entrance to the facility, which houses security prisoners, including individuals accused of spying for Iran.
During an examination of their mobile phones, investigators discovered photographs of security installations and security-related activities, raising concerns over the purpose of their presence near the prison.
The two suspects were taken into custody and are being questioned by Israel Police and the Shin Bet.
Authorities are examining the photographs found on their devices as part of an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The suspects are expected to appear before a judge for a hearing on extending their detention.
Damon Prison, located on Mount Carmel, houses security prisoners and includes a special wing established for dozens of suspects accused of espionage on behalf of Iran.
Prisoners held in the special wing are reportedly subject to strict security measures, including continuous camera surveillance and restrictions on visits and communication.
Investigators have not yet established the reason the two German nationals were photographing the facility, and the investigation remains ongoing.
