ELECTION DISPUTE: High Court Judge Allows Netanyahu Meeting With Police Chief Despite AG’s Objection

Oct 25, 2026·2 min read

Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg ruled Sunday that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu may proceed with a planned meeting with Israel Police Commissioner Danny Levy, rejecting an objection by Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara just days before the elections.

The ruling came after the attorney general sought to prevent the meeting, raising concerns over possible political interference in the election process.

The Likud party rejected the criticism, explaining that the meeting was intended to address security threats and was a continuation of discussions previously held with senior security officials.

Likud insisted that the meeting had nothing to do with election integrity and said Sohlberg was welcome to send a representative from the Central Elections Committee to attend.

Opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot sharply criticized Netanyahu, accusing him of improperly involving the police commissioner in political matters ahead of Election Day.

Eisenkot warned that summoning the police chief so close to the elections could undermine public confidence in the electoral process. He also urged civil servants to maintain their professional independence.

In a message directed at public officials, Eisenkot declared, “Your loyalty is to the state, not to the king,” warning against attempts to interfere with the elections.

Despite the attorney general’s opposition shortly before the scheduled meeting, Sohlberg rejected her position and ruled that Netanyahu and the police commissioner could meet as planned.
