BILLION-DOLLAR DEAL: Saudi Arabia Reportedly Negotiates Payment to Houthis Through Iran to Halt Attacks

Oct 27, 2026·2 min read

Saudi Arabia is reportedly pursuing an agreement to transfer $1 billion to Yemen’s Houthi terrorists through Iranian mediation in exchange for an end to attacks on the Kingdom, including its oil facilities.

According to Gulf diplomatic sources, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman made a brief visit to Tehran to advance the proposed ceasefire arrangement.

One Gulf source claimed that the Saudi minister brought the money aboard the Hercules military transport aircraft on which he arrived. The report did not establish that any funds had been transferred to the Houthis.

A Saudi source did not confirm the existence of the billion-dollar agreement, but said part of the dispute concerns the implementation of understandings reached over the past three years.

Under those understandings, Riyadh was to provide direct financial support for public-sector salaries and infrastructure reconstruction in exchange for the Houthis halting attacks against Saudi Arabia.

The visit was reportedly organized by Saudi Arabia’s partners in the Makkah mutual-defense alliance. Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin and Pakistani army commander Field Marshal Asim Munir also participated in the talks.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officials represented Tehran.

The meeting was described as the first official encounter between representatives of the Makkah alliance and Iran’s leadership, potentially giving Tehran a significant diplomatic opening.

According to the report, Iran is seeking to use the discussions to advance a regional security framework under its leadership, avert American or Israeli military intervention and strengthen its position as a regional mediator.
