NUCLEAR SHOWDOWN: President Trump Says Iran War Will End Soon As Qatar Renews Peace Push
President Trump said Friday that he believes the war with Iran will end soon, as Qatari mediators returned to Tehran for another effort to break the diplomatic deadlock.
Speaking to Kansas City radio station KCMO, President Trump said the conflict would be “wrapped up soon,” while stressing that Washington needs a guarantee that Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon. He did not explain how an agreement would be reached.
An official briefed on the negotiations told Reuters that Qatar’s latest mediation effort was coordinated with the United States. A previous proposal presented by Doha was rejected by a senior Iranian official as unacceptable.
The central dispute remains the order of negotiations. Washington wants Iran’s nuclear program addressed immediately, while Tehran demands that the United States first end its blockade of Iranian ports and lift sanctions on oil exports.
The diplomatic push also follows a letter from Vice President JD Vance to senior Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei. Tehran acknowledged receiving the letter but had not responded. President Trump said the outreach concerned humanitarian assistance, while diplomats have warned regional allies to prepare for possible renewed military action after the U.S. midterm elections.
