America Has 44% More Home Sellers Than Buyers, a Near-Record Gap There were an estimated 44% more home sellers than buyers in the U.S. housing market in January (or 600,314 more, in numerical terms). That’s up from 30% more a year earlier and represents the second largest gap in records dating back to 2013. The largest gap was in December 2025, when sellers outnumbered buyers by 45%. The strongest seller’s market in January was Newark, NJ, which had an estimated 31% fewer sellers than buyers. The other four seller’s markets were • Nassau County, NY (-29%) • Milwaukee (-26%), • Montgomery County, PA (-26%) • New Brunswick, NJ (-17%). The number of homebuyers in the market fell 1% month over month and 8% year over year in January to an estimated 1.36 million; the lowest level on record. The strongest buyer’s market in January was Miami, which had an estimated 159% more home sellers than buyers. Next came Fort Lauderdale, FL (128%), Austin, TX (124%), Nashville (120%), and San Antonio (114%).

According to Bloomberg, a US delegation will meet Chinese officials in Geneva this week to discuss nuclear weapons, as the Trump administration pushes for a new round of arms control talks with both China and Russia. The meetings come just weeks after the New START treaty between the US and Russia expired. US officials say future negotiations should include China, though Beijing has previously declined to participate.

U.S. President Donald Trump on the report from WSJ, Axios and WaPo: Statement - “Numerous stories from the Fake News Media have been circulating stating that General Daniel Caine, sometimes referred to as Razin, is against us going to War with Iran. The story does not attribute this vast wealth of knowledge to anyone, and is 100% incorrect. General Caine, like all of us, would like not to see War but, if a decision is made on going against Iran at a Military level, it is his opinion that it will be something easily won. He knows Iran well in that he was in charge of Midnight Hammer, the attack on the Iranian Nuclear Development. It is a Development no longer, but rather, was blown to smithereens by our Great B-2 Bombers. Razin Caine is a Great Fighter, and represents the Most Powerful Military anywhere in the World. He has not spoken of not doing Iran, or even the fake limited strikes that I have been reading about, he only knows one thing, how to WIN and, if he is told to do so, he will be leading the pack. Everything that has been written about a potential War with Iran has been written incorrectly, and purposefully so. I am the one that makes the decision, I would rather have a Deal than not but, if we don’t make a Deal, it will be a very bad day for that Country and, very sadly, its people, because they are great and wonderful, and something like this should never have happened to them.”

The U.S. stock market closed sharply lower today, reversing last week's gains amid renewed uncertainty over trade policy and fears of AI-driven disruptions in various industries. IBM suffered one of its most severe single-day declines in recent history, closing down approximately 13.1%. It erased roughly $31 billion in market capitalization in a single session. Major indices ended the session with solid losses: • Dow Jones Industrial Average : Down 822 points to close 48,804. • S&P 500: Down 1.04% to close 6,838. • Nasdaq Composite: Down 1.13% to close 22,627. The sell-off was driven primarily by two key factors: 1. Tariff uncertainty — Following last week's Supreme Court ruling that struck down President Trump's prior broad "reciprocal" tariffs (under emergency powers), he responded over the weekend by imposing a new 15% global tariff (up from an initial 10%) under a different trade authority. 2. AI disruption fears — Ongoing worries about artificial intelligence rapidly transforming industries hit several sectors hard, particularly software and cybersecurity names. Safe-haven assets moved higher in response: Gold climbed toward $5,200–$5,230 per ounce. Bitcoin dipped amid the risk-off mood, trading between $64,500–$65,000. The S&P 500 alone erased roughly $650 billion in market capitalization today amid the ~1% decline.

Trump Administration Got Mexico to Transfer Nearly 100 Cartel Suspects to the U.S. Before El Mencho Raid In the months before Mexican forces killed cartel boss Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho, the Trump administration quietly arranged for Mexico to send nearly 100 suspected cartel leaders and operatives to the United States to face federal criminal charges. These transfers included high‑ranking members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and others tied to transnational crime. Among the individuals sent to the U.S. was Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, El Mencho’s brother, who was extradited and charged in Washington, D.C. as part of a broader effort to disrupt cartel command structures. According to a Reuters report, the operation that resulted in El Mencho’s death was carried out with the assistance of intelligence given by a newly-formed U.S. task force called the Joint Interagency Task Force-Counter Cartel. The Joint Interagency Task Force–Counter Cartel, established last month, brings together multiple U.S. government agencies. Its role is to gather and analyze intelligence on drug cartel operations along both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Weather Update - LSTA Bussing Services (Tuesday, February 24th) Due to ongoing road and staffing conditions following the recent storm, LSTA bussing services will not be running on Tuesday, February 24th. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Lakewood Township Department of Public Works and the Lakewood Township Council - and especially to Meir Lichtenstein, OEM and bussing liaison - for nothing short of heroic efforts in getting Lakewood streets cleared. We also extend our thanks to the Jackson Township Department of Public Works and the Jackson Township Council, and specifically Mordy Burnstein, for truly stepping up their cleanup operations. We are equally grateful to the other townships we contract with for their continued efforts. Each storm brings its own dynamics that must be carefully evaluated. This was a once-in-a-decade event, and its impact has been significant. For tomorrow morning's routes alone, approximately 450 drivers are required. Nearly 95% of our drivers reside in neighboring towns where public schools remain closed and road conditions are not yet as passable as those in our immediate area. This presents a substantial staffing challenge. Each school will make its own independent decision regarding school hours for Tuesday. Please wait for communication directly from your school. We are actively working with neighboring districts - whose public schools many of our drivers rely on - with the goal of resuming regular operations on Wednesday. Thank you for your continued patience, cooperation, and understanding.

BBC Persian reporter Siavash Ardalan - "The Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization has claimed that it carried out an armed attack on Khamenei’s residence on Monday. The People's Mujahedin of Iran, an exiled opposition group long opposed to the Islamic Republic and designated as a terrorist organization by Iran (though delisted in some Western countries in the past), has claimed responsibility for an armed attack on Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's residence today. They reported heavy regime casualties in the Motahari Complex (a fortified area in Tehran that includes Khamenei's office/residence, Mojtaba Khamenei's office, and key institutions like the Supreme National Security Council), while claiming over 100 of their own fighters were killed or arrested, and around 150 withdrew safely. The group also reportedly hacked or infiltrated Iran's cellular network (e.g., IranCell) to send mass text messages to citizens announcing the attack, with slogans like "Hail Rajavi, Death to Khamenei". Eyewitness accounts and reports from Tehran describe a tense atmosphere around the area today, with heavy security deployments, roadblocks at main intersections, and a visible buildup of forces. However, Iranian state media and official channels have not confirmed any such attack.

Israel’s Knesset voted 59–25 to revoke Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s order raising the VAT-free online import cap from $75 to $150. The move would have allowed Israelis to shop on sites like Amazon & Temu without the 18% VAT up to $150. While popular with consumers, local businesses blasted it as harmful to domestic industry. Several Likud lawmakers opposed the measure, and PM Benjamin Netanyahu ultimately allowed a free vote. Smotrich says he’ll issue a new order, vowing to fight the high cost of living. VAT - Israel’s VAT, or Value Added Tax, is a consumption tax applied to most goods and services in the country. It is currently set at 17% and is included in the final price consumers pay at checkout. Businesses collect the tax on behalf of the government and pass it along to the Israel Tax Authority, while also receiving credits for VAT they themselves paid on business expenses. Certain items, such as some fruits and vegetables and specific services, may be exempt or zero-rated.

Senate Democrats Move to Mandate Refunds of Trump Tariffs After Supreme Court Ruling A group of 22 Senate Democrats introduced legislation today requiring the Trump administration to refund all revenue collected from tariffs the U.S. Supreme Court recently struck down as unlawful. The bill sets a 180-day deadline for refunds with interest and directs U.S. Customs and Border Protection to prioritize small businesses when processing claims. The 22 Democrats who co-sponsored the bill included Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senators Ron Wyden of Oregon, Edward Markey of Massachusetts and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, the top Democrats on the Senate's Finance, Small Business and Foreign Relations committees, respectively. It follows Friday’s Supreme Court decision invalidating broad tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Lawmakers estimate roughly $175 billion was collected under the tariff program.

President Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with what aides describe as the limits of military leverage against Iran, according to CBS News. Military planners have advised that any strike on Tehran’s assets would likely not deliver a decisive, one-off blow and could instead escalate into a wider, prolonged conflict in the Middle East. A senior military official told CBS that military planners are providing "unbiased advice."

CBN - @Whichever girls schools close tomorrow, it’s just straight up selfish and shows that you don’t care about the children’s chinuch or your parent body that pay the tuition. There is no middle road here,if you close it’s a straight up “we can do whatever we want” and we dont care about you!🤬 Then you raise our tuitions because you can’t pay your bills and expect us to come through with donations and Rayze It campaigns to help cover the budget, etc. Either we are on the same team or we are not, and any school that closes tomorrow has clearly drawn a line in the sand. If a child lives in an area that isn’t safe to drive in, then that child can stay home. Classes can be light, and the children can be taught about Yom Tov, etc. 99% of the staff is local to Lakewood, and the roads are clear. 💪 The parents have driven the children to school in worse conditions than this for the last month. Don’t come complaining if my tuition is late or doesn’t come at all. Additionally, the bittul Torah for the fathers who can’t go learn tomorrow is on you. NO BUSSING DOESNT MEAN NO SCHOOL IT JUST MEANS MORE TRAFFIC! It’s unacceptable. You can love me or hate me, but I promise you that I am speaking now for the thousands of parents in 08701 who don’t have a platform. #FixTheFormula #FixTheCalender #NOMoreDaysOff #CBN END RANT

Suspect in Nancy Guthrie Abduction May Have Scouted Her Home Before Disappearance Investigators say the masked man seen in doorbell camera footage may have visited 84‑year‑old Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson, Arizona, home before she was abducted on February 1. Sources tell ABC News the FBI recovered an image showing the same figure at her front door on a separate day without a backpack. The earlier visit suggests planning or surveillance rather than a random attack. The fact that it was captured on camera also indicates that more footage was retrieved from Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell camera than initially expected. On the night of her disappearance, the suspect wore a backpack and appeared to tamper with the camera. Authorities are asking neighbors to share security footage from earlier in January to establish a clearer timeline. No arrest has been made and the search continues.

Regarding the crazy prizes/gift cards etc that some org are offering children to collect for them on Purim- Totally agree. My kids will not be collecting for these organizations, and I will not be giving more than a dollar. The worst thing about this is , it cuts into the schools as kids are not collecting for their schools, because there is no incentive. What I have suggested and would take someone like you guys to spread is as follows . Schools should offer the parents that something like 40-50% of what their children collect for their schools will be applied to tuition, and then it will be up to the parents to figure out how to incentivize their children.

U.S. Prepared for Short, Intensive Military Strike The United States is reportedly prepared to carry out a short but highly intensive military strike, according to an intelligence assessment. Sources familiar with the assessment say U.S. forces have completed key operational preparations and are positioned to act if a final decision is made by political leadership. The potential operation is described as lasting only several days and would focus on delivering a concentrated blow aimed at specific strategic targets. Officials emphasize that the scenario under consideration would be limited in duration, seeking to achieve defined objectives rather than trigger a prolonged conflict.

Arizona House Approves Resolutions Affirming Israeli Sovereignty Over Judea and Samaria The Arizona House of Representatives passed two resolutions Monday formally affirming Israel's sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. The legislation, sponsored by Representative David Livingston, mandates that the state use historically accurate terminology—specifically the names "Judea and Samaria"—in all official communications, while formally rejecting the term "West Bank." The resolutions characterize the latter as a term imposed during Jordan's occupation of the territory between 1948 and 1967. Supporters of the legislation stated that the move prioritizes historical and biblical accuracy over political pressure. The resolutions also highlight the region's importance to both Israeli security and United States interests. Having passed the House with bipartisan support, the measures now move to the Arizona Senate for final adoption.

US Navy Intercepts Third "Dark Fleet" Tanker in Indian Ocean After 10,000-Mile Pursuit U.S. naval forces conducted a high-stakes maritime interdiction overnight, boarding the Cook Islands-flagged crude oil tanker M/T BERTHA in the Indian Ocean. The operation, which was carried out without incident, marks the third such interdiction in the region this month. According to the Pentagon, the BERTHA fled Venezuela in early January following the U.S. military operation that led to the apprehension of Nicolás Maduro. The vessel spent weeks attempting to evade the maritime quarantine established by President Trump, traveling over 10,000 miles before being caught. "Three boats ran and now all three have been captured," the Department of Defense stated on X, referring to the BERTHA and the previously intercepted Aquila II and Veronica III. The BERTHA is listed under U.S. sanctions related to Iran and is linked to Shanghai Legendary Ship Management.

Iranian AH-1J Super Cobra Crashes Into Isfahan Fruit Market, Killing 4 An Iranian Army AH-1J Super Cobra attack helicopter crashed into a crowded fruit and vegetable market in the city of Dorcheh this morning, killing four people.  The aircraft was on a training mission when it went down due to an apparent technical malfunction. State media reported that both the pilot and co-pilot died in the crash, along with two merchants on the ground. Footage from the scene showed smoke billowing from destroyed market stalls as firefighters worked to contain the resulting blaze.  This is the second fatal military aviation accident in Iran in less than a week, following an F-4 Phantom II crash near Hamedan that killed a pilot on Thursday.

Iran Nears Deal for Chinese Supersonic Missiles as U.S. Naval Force Gathers in Middle East Iran is close to finalizing a major agreement with China to purchase advanced CM-302 supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles, according to a Reuters report. The deal comes at a moment of extreme regional tension as the United States assembles a massive naval armada in the Middle East, including the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford and the USS Abraham Lincoln. The CM-302 missiles possess a range of approximately 290 kilometers and travel at speeds designed to penetrate modern shipborne defense systems. Two sources familiar with the matter indicated that the deployment of these weapons would constitute a direct threat to U.S. Navy forces currently operating in the region. Experts warn that the arrival of these missiles would significantly enhance Iran's ability to challenge Western naval dominance in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea, particularly as the U.S. prepares for a potential strike against Iranian targets.

The CIA released a video in Farsi urging Iranians to reach out and make contact with the Agency. The video, shared on the official CIA account on, begins with: "سلام. سازمان اطلاعات مرکزی (CIA) صدای شما را می‌شنود و می‌خواهد به شما کمک کند." (Translation: "Hello. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) hears your voice and wants to help you.") It then provides guidance on safe virtual contact methods, including tips on using privacy tools like Tor, up-to-date browsers, VPNs (avoiding those based in hostile countries like Iran, Russia, or China), private browsing modes, clearing histories, and avoiding personal or work devices. This appears to be a fresh outreach effort amid heightened tensions involving Iran (including recent protests, crackdowns, nuclear issues, and regional conflicts). This builds on the CIA's prior multilingual recruitment campaigns: • In October 2024, the agency released similar text-only instructional videos and infographics in Farsi, Mandarin, and Korean, focused on secure contact methods for potential informants in Iran, China, and North Korea. The 2026 Farsi video seems more direct in tone, explicitly urging outreach and framing the CIA as attentive to Iranians' concerns.

Avinoam Emunah is promoted to the rank of brigadier general. Emunah recently served as commander of the military's new Hasmonean Brigade for Haredi troops. The IDF says that as part of the new role, Emunah will work in coordination with all branches of the military to "advance and expand the service of members of the Haredi community in the IDF, including building service tracks, establishing units, and strengthening a service environment that is enabling and adapted to the Haredi way of life." "As part of his role, he will also engage, among other things, in accompanying recruits before service, updating, adapting, and enforcing policy, guiding commanders on issues related to the service of Haredi soldiers, and providing support and responses to the soldiers themselves," the army says. Emunah was awarded the brigadier general rank by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir during a ceremony today. At the same ceremony, Zamir also awarded Shai Siman-Tov, a senior officer in the Operations Directorate, the rank of brigadier general. Siman-Tov was critically wounded during the 2014 Gaza War while serving as the commander of the Golani Brigade's 12th Battalion. He returned to the military a year after his injury to serve at the IDF's Tactical Command College. More recently, he has been serving in a top role in the Operations Directorate.

🚨 Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the Shin Bet managers' conference: "I want to start by saying that I have full confidence in the organization, full confidence in its commander, David Zini. A highly decorated commander, an initiator, here is an important word - a tactician, a reality changer. Because reality is constantly changing before us, and we must move accordingly. We are challenged on one hand by a wounded Shiite axis, but of course, there is the Sunni axis of the Muslim Brotherhood. And we have a great interest in creating our own axis. An axis of countries opposing the two axes of radical Islam. This encompasses many countries. Some are visiting us, even these days. Some we are visiting. I am talking about a whole circle that encompasses the Middle East. I wanted to use a biblical expression, fitting for Purim: "From India to Cush." Quite close. And more in between and into the Mediterranean Sea. A new axis. We have rescued the hostages, up to the last one - Rani Golan, a hero of Israel. Now we need to complete the mission. It is agreed with the international force, with the "Peace Council," that Hamas must disarm and we must demilitarize Gaza. As we say: either this will happen the easy way, or it will happen the hard way, but it will happen. Then to ensure that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel. There is only one force that can guarantee this. That is, of course, that the increasing security responsibility will be ours. The terror front in Judea and Samaria and the operation you carried out is nothing less than a warning; the combined operation with the IDF to attack terror centers in the refugee camps, essentially uprooting the centers of gravity of terror. I don't think Israeli citizens understand how many lives your activity has saved. Many. There are hundreds of thousands of illegal weapons. This stockpile must be reduced, must be taken away, because a stormy day can come. We always talk about turning barrels here and there, from both places. This is a top mission, which of course also affects crime in the Arab sector, which you have very importantly mobilized for joint action to deal with. But this is a symptom of a bigger issue. We want a state with law, not a wild west, not a wild south, not a wild north."

🚨 34% of Israelis Lack Adequate Shelter Protection Amid Rising Tensions Approximately 34% of Israel’s population does not have access to adequate shelter protection, according to figures presented during recent high-level civil defense discussions, as concerns grow over a possible escalation with Iran. The data emerged in closed-door meetings involving senior security officials and emergency authorities, where preparations for potential missile attacks and broader conflict scenarios were reviewed. Officials reportedly examined gaps in home-front readiness and explored ways to better protect civilians living in buildings without reinforced safe rooms or nearby public shelters. The discussions focused on improving rapid response systems for vulnerable neighborhoods, identifying areas with insufficient protection, and ensuring essential services can continue operating during emergencies. Proposals included expanded use of underground facilities and adjustments to workplace regulations during periods of heightened alert.

🚨 Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to UN Ambassadors: “Israel is a very small, but very powerful, country, because of technology and science but also because of the spirit of the people.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, today at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem, met with a delegation of UN ambassadors, together with Israeli Ambassador to the US Danny Danon. Prime Minister Netanyahu to the ambassadors: “People thought that after the Holocaust, antisemitism would disappear. No, it just took a rest, a brief respite. It has come back. The only thing that has changed is not what they say about the Jews and what they say about the Jewish state, they say the same thing about us. The one thing that has changed is that when they come to slaughter us, we have the capacity to defend ourselves. We've just emerged from a seven-front war. And the chants that they were shouting, these monsters of Hamas. They chanted: “Death to Israel, death to America.’ They slaughtered every man, woman and child they could get their hands on. They would have slaughtered all of us if they could, but they couldn't, because we rolled them back. But not only them, the whole Iran axis, which keeps them alive. Hamas, Hezbollah, the Assad regime, Houthis, Iran itself, these various militias, we rolled them back. That is what has changed. Today Israel is a very small country, but it's a very powerful country. It's powerful not only because of technology, that too, not only because of science, that too. It's powerful because of the spirit of the people. It's powerful because we know that history is not going to give us another chance. There are so many miracles that a people can perform. Coming back from the dead, breaking all the rules of history, because you can't come back from the dead, but we did. And we are completely committed to protecting our future, ensuring a region of prosperity and security and peace, not only for us, but for all those who join us.”

This is just my own speculation on the current Iran-Israel-U.S. tensions as of February 24, 2026. Two main possibilities: 1. Nothing major happens in the next 48 hours. Trump's State of the Union address is tonight (Feb 24, ~9 PM ET), laying out his tough stance on Iran, economy, and foreign policy. Any dramatic Israeli preemptive strike right now would overshadow it. Plus, if Modi were arriving soon for talks (though his last big U.S. visit was in 2025), it might act as a stabilizer. But it could be a smokescreen: Modi quietly delays/cancels any travel without fanfare, giving Israel cover to hit Iranian targets preemptively. We saw this pattern before—Israel struck Iran right after Milei's visit in June 2025 wrapped up. Quiet diplomacy can mask escalation. 2. They wait for Iran's response (likely tomorrow, Feb 25), then the clock starts. Iran is expected to deliver its official reply via Oman today or tomorrow to U.S. demands (zero enrichment as a red line, per Trump officials). If it's defiant—rejecting limits or pushing back on sanctions relief—the real escalation window opens. Trump/Netanyahu hold fire until then to claim "we tried diplomacy." Same logic applies to Rubio's Israel trip: originally planned for Feb 28 but delayed (now eyeing March 2 or later) amid ongoing Geneva talks (set for Feb 26). If Iran's response tomorrow provokes, Rubio's visit could become the briefing point for next steps—coordination on strikes or pressure tactics. Bottom line: Tonight's speech sets the tone. If Iran blinks tomorrow with real concessions, we might get a shaky interim deal. If not, the diplomatic window closes fast, and military options (U.S.-backed or Israeli-led) feel inevitable. History shows high-profile visits often precede action—watch for quiet moves. Written by Israel Fastag #CBN Raw and Unfiltered

Trump Administration Sues UCLA Over Alleged Antisemitic Environment The Trump administration has sued the University of California, alleging discrimination against Jewish and Israeli employees at University of California, Los Angeles. The lawsuit, filed today in federal court in Los Angeles by the U.S. Department of Justice, claims the university allowed an antisemitic hostile work environment in violation of federal civil rights law. Federal officials say Jewish and Israeli staff faced harassment and exclusion tied to campus tensions during pro-Palestinian demonstrations and argue university leaders failed to adequately address the conduct. The lawsuit seeks a court order requiring UCLA, part of the University of California system, to investigate and address antisemitism complaints and provide training on anti-discrimination policies. It also seeks an unspecified amount in monetary damages to go to two UCLA professors who alleged being subjected to antisemitism. Last year, the Trump administration moved to freeze hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding for UCLA over its handling of pro-Palestinian protests, but a federal judge ordered the funds restored.

Trump Administration Considers Requiring Banks to Collect Citizenship Information The Trump administration is considering executive action that could require U.S. banks to collect and possibly report customers’ citizenship information, according to people familiar with internal discussions. Options under review include a potential executive order directing banks to gather additional documentation, such as a passport, from both new and existing customers seeking to open or maintain accounts. The proposal has not been approved and remains under discussion within the Treasury Department. It is unclear whether banks would only collect the information or also be required to close accounts for customers who cannot provide the added documentation. About half of the U.S. population does not have a passport. It is also not clear how any order would apply to noncitizens who are in the country legally. Bank executives have raised concerns that the requirements could create barriers to financial services. Current “know your customer” rules require banks to collect a customer’s name, date of birth and address, typically from a driver’s license, but do not require citizenship information and do not bar banks from opening accounts for noncitizens. A separate person familiar with the administration’s deliberations said Treasury officials are weighing additional steps to limit illegal immigrants’ access to bank accounts. The White House declined to comment on the possibility of an executive order on immigration, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. “Any reporting about potential policymaking that has not been officially announced by the White House is baseless speculation,” White House spokesman Kush Desai said.

New York Governor Hochul urges $13.5 billion tariff refund after Supreme Court rebuke of Trump tariffs New York Governor Kathy Hochul today urged the Trump administration to issue $13.5 billion in tariff refunds after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down President Trump’s broad tariffs on imports as unlawful. The tariffs, imposed under emergency powers, were found to exceed presidential authority, and Hochul said they cost the average New York household about $1,751 in added costs and hurt small businesses and farmers. Hochul described the levies as a senseless tax on New Yorkers and demanded a full refund to consumers, businesses and farms. She joins the governors of Illinois and California in pressing for reimbursement after the court’s ruling, which did not provide a clear process for refunding the roughly $175 billion the government collected. The White House dismissed the refund calls by the governors, defending the tariffs as successful policy and saying the refund question should be resolved by the courts. Treasury officials have indicated that lower courts will handle refund claims, which could take years to play out.
