A fire broke out in the rear of a garbage truck on Coney Island Avenue between Avenues J and K earlier today, reportedly caused by a battery inside the trash. FDNY firefighters quickly extinguished the flames before the fire could spread.

NYC DRUG DELIVERY RING BUSTED: A major cocaine delivery operation based out of a luxury Bronx apartment building was dismantled following a long-term investigation by the NYC Special Narcotics Unit. Authorities seized more than 22 pounds of cocaine, two firearms, and over $200,000 in cash. Prosecutors say the group delivered drugs throughout the city, including the Flatbush area, using the Bronx apartment as a pickup hub for drivers making deliveries across Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.

The Long Island Rail Road strike has officially ended after a deal was reached between the MTA and union leaders. Full LIRR service has now resumed following the 3-day strike that disrupted commutes for hundreds of thousands across New York. Officers from the NYPD 60th Precinct Conditions Team conducted a vehicle stop for a traffic violation, leading to the arrest of two men and the recovery of a loaded illegal firearm.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for New York City, including, Brooklyn, and surrounding areas, until 7:00 PM EDT.

Two people, an 86-year-old woman and her 65-year-old son, were killed in a devastating apartment fire early Saturday morning on Nostrand Avenue near Beverly Road. FDNY crews rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control, while two additional residents were hospitalized with serious injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The NYPD 62nd Precinct’s Q-Team says it is continuing to address quality-of-life concerns in the community, recently taking enforcement action against unauthorized vehicles on local roadways. Acting on resident tips, officers identified the vehicles, issued summonses, and had them towed, while thanking the public for helping keep neighborhood streets safe and clear.

An 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were charged after a 45-year-old MTA bus driver was struck in the face with a pellet gun Saturday near East 56th Street and Avenue U in Mill Basin near Flatbush The driver suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized.

The NYPD 70th Precinct continues to deliver results. Following two separate short-term investigations, the precinct’s Field Intelligence Team successfully recovered two more illegally possessed firearms, taking them off the streets in back-to-back operations.

A motorcyclist was struck at Avenue M and Nostrand Avenue, sustaining a serious leg injury. Flatbush Hatzoloh is on the scene treating the victim. A dark-colored SUV reportedly fled the scene, and Flatbush Shomrim along with the NYPD are investigating.
