8:04 PM50,000+ Under Evacuation Orders As Crews Race To Prevent Toxic Chemical Explosion In Garden Grove Evacuation orders remain in effect for approximately 50,000 people as firefighters continue working to reduce the risk of a toxic chemical tank explosion at the GKN Aerospace facility in Garden Grove, California. Authorities say an overheating tank containing thousands of gallons of methyl methacrylate, a highly flammable chemical used in plastics manufacturing, remains a serious concern. Fire crews are actively cooling the tank to help prevent a possible explosion or toxic chemical release. Officials released a map showing the potential blast and chemical dispersal zones. Areas closest to the facility could experience severe damage if the tank fails. Several evacuation shelters have reportedly reached capacity, and multiple schools in the area will remain closed until further notice. Emergency officials are urging residents to follow evacuation orders and avoid the affected area as crews continue working around the clock to stabilize the situation. --

Authorities say the suspect, identified as Semaj De Leone James of South Los Angeles, was later identified through an investigation involving West Los Angeles detectives and the FBI. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated: “Attacking someone because of their faith is not just a crime against one person, it’s an assault on our community.” The suspect pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance despite prosecutors objecting to the release. DOJ Files Major Federal Lawsuit Against UCLA Over Alleged Antisemitism On Campus The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a major federal lawsuit against UCLA, accusing the university of allowing antisemitic harassment and violence against Jewish and Israeli students following the October 7 attacks. According to the lawsuit, Jewish students were allegedly blocked from accessing parts of campus, prevented from attending classes, and subjected to violence and intimidation by masked anti-Israel protesters during encampment demonstrations. The DOJ claims UCLA “knowingly acted with deliberate indifference” while Jewish students faced harassment, assaults, and exclusion from public areas of campus. This marks the second major federal antisemitism-related lawsuit involving UCLA in recent months, as pressure continues to mount on universities across the country over their handling of antisemitism allegations following October 7. --

LA Voters To Decide On Measure ER Sales Tax Increase Los Angeles County voters will decide on June 2 whether to approve Measure ER, a proposed 0.5% sales tax increase for five years to help fund the county’s healthcare system. Supporters say the measure would raise about $1 billion a year and is needed to prevent further strain on clinics, hospitals, and emergency rooms. They warn that several county health clinics have already closed and more services could be at risk without new funding. Opponents argue that LA County residents are already facing high costs and that another sales tax hike would further burden families and businesses. The measure will be decided by roughly 5.8 million registered voters in the June 2 primary. --
