New CalFresh Work Requirements Take Effect Today Beginning June 1, some Californians receiving CalFresh food assistance benefits will face new federal work requirements. Under the new rules, able-bodied adults ages 18 to 64 will generally be required to work, volunteer, or participate in qualifying activities for at least 20 hours per week to continue receiving benefits. Several exemptions apply, including individuals who are caring for a person with a disability, receiving or applying for unemployment benefits, or attending school or a training program at least half-time. Current recipients will have a three-month grace period to meet the new requirements before their benefits could be affected. --

Jewish Mother Raises Concerns After Encounter At Cedars-Sinai A Jewish mother says she was stunned when checking her child into a pediatric endocrinology appointment at Cedars-Sinai and noticed a receptionist wearing a keffiyeh. The concern comes amid ongoing tensions following the October 7 attacks, as the keffiyeh has increasingly been displayed at anti-Israel protests and demonstrations where antisemitic rhetoric and support for terrorist organizations have at times been expressed. The mother said the experience left her feeling uncomfortable and questioning whether politically charged symbols should be worn by employees in patient-facing healthcare roles. --

With Polls Now Closed, When Will We Know the Election Results? The first batch of results will come in no more than two hours after the polls closed, with the first batch including early voting results and mail-in ballots received in the first few weeks of voting. Later tonight, election officials will start adding votes cast today to those tallies. Processing mail-in ballots will take longer, with election officials needing to match the signature on file to the signature on each mailed-in ballot. Most mail-in ballots that were not sent in early likely won’t be counted until later this week, potentially delaying the election results by days. Republicans appear to have been quicker to submit their mail-in ballots, meaning we may see Steve Hilton jump out to an early lead in the race for Govenor. All in all, we may not know the election results for a while. --

California may Need Weeks to Count all the Votes Southern California voters awaiting final returns from Tuesday's primary election should expect vote totals to continue changing for several weeks as counties count outstanding ballots, California Secretary of State Shirley Weber said Thursday amid allegations by President Donald Trump of election cheating. Weber noted that while Election Day has passed, California law allows county elections officials up to 30 days to complete the official canvass and process eligible ballots that remain outstanding. State officials are asking voters to be patient as ballots continue to be processed for weeks after Tuesday's primary election, with final certification not expected until July 10. 🎯 Los Angeles Scoop's Take on the Matter Whether you're a Republican, Democrat, or Independent, it's fair to ask: How does the largest state in America still take a month to figure out who won an election?
