Iconic Santa Monica Pier Sign Being Removed for Restoration The famous Santa Monica Pier entrance sign, one of Southern California’s most recognizable landmarks, is being removed beginning today, October 20, and is expected to remain gone until mid-to-late 2027, approximately 12 to 14 months. The historic sign, which has welcomed visitors since 1941, will be transported to Las Vegas for extensive restoration, including neon repairs, rust removal, repainting and structural improvements. The removal is part of a $35 million project to replace the aging bridge connecting Ocean Avenue to the Pier. The restored sign will be reinstalled once bridge construction is completed. The Santa Monica Pier will remain open throughout construction, and a smaller replica sign has been installed for visitors to photograph.
