🕯️ Parshas Acharei–Kedoshim — a beautiful thought shared by the Emailim BaTorah blog The Satmar Rebbe zt”l was once asked why he spoke so sharply and critically about Klal Yisrael (the Jewish people). Why couldn’t he be like Rav Levi Yitzchok of Berditchev, who always found ways to defend even the resha’im (those who seem wicked)? The Rebbe answered with a fundamental idea from the Yom Kippur Temple service: When the Kohen Gadol (High Priest) entered the Kodesh HaKodashim (Holy of Holies), he wore only bigdei lavan (white garments)—not bigdei zahav (gold garments)—because ein kateigor na’aseh saneigor (“the prosecutor cannot become the defender”). Gold, which recalls the chet ha’eigel (the sin of the Golden Calf), cannot serve as a defense in that most intimate place. Yet, when the Kohen Gadol performed the avodah (service) outside the Kodesh HaKodashim, he did wear bigdei zahav. (garments that included gold). Why is there no concern of ein kateigor na’aseh saneigor there? The answer is profound: Outside, where Klal Yisrael can see the Kohen Gadol, the reminder of the eigel (Golden Calf) serves a purpose—it awakens the people to do teshuvah (repentance). There, even “gold” can be used constructively. But inside the Kodesh HaKodashim, where it is only the Kohen Gadol and the Ribbono Shel Olam, there is no place for reminders of sin—only pure defense. There, he must be entirely a saneigor (defender). The Rebbe concluded: “When I stand facing the tzibbur, with my back to the Aron HaKodesh, I speak as a kateigor (prosecutor). I rebuke, I criticize, I demand growth and teshuvah. But when I turn toward the Aron HaKodesh, facing the Ribbono Shel Olam—I become entirely a saneigor. Then I say: "V’ameich kulam tzaddikim (Your nation are all righteous)." "Mi ke’amcha Yisrael (Who is like Your people, Israel)."

🚨 TORONTO POLITICS UPDATE Anthony Furey has announced that he will NOT run in Toronto’s upcoming mayoral election this October. Furey — a former Toronto Sun columnist who placed 4th in the 2023 mayoral by-election — said he considered another run but ultimately decided “the time is not right.” 📊 Recent polling had him at 11% support, trailing: • Olivia Chow – 46% • Brad Bradford – 35% 👀 His decision follows other notable names stepping aside, including John Tory and Michael Ford 🗳️ The municipal election is set for October 26, with nominations opening May 1. The race is starting to take shape — but still far from finalized. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/H2oH2yD6OhP34toRYH8G0t?mode=gi_t

Jeff Silver interviewing Bentzion Heitner & Warren Kimel about business and philanthropy Great story from Mr. Heitner: a boy once came to the Lubavitcher Rebbe and said that he had just come from a Dodgers game. The boy said he had left early because the game wasn't going well for the Dodgers. The rebbe asked the boy if the players left early, to which the boy responded that they obviously did not. The rebbe turned to the boy and told him that he will have to choose in life between being a player or a spectator. Being a player involves taking responsibility. Another great line from Mr. Heitner: "Nothing has given me more satisfaction in my career than having the opportunity to give someone for our community a job." Mr Kimel: "working in a company and industry of mostly non-Jews, I always know that I'm representing the Jewish people and that's a serious responsibility." Mr. Kimel: "My success and legacy will be my children, not the business." -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/H2oH2yD6OhP34toRYH8G0t?mode=gi_t

🇨🇦 SENATE STUDY ON ANTISEMITISM UNDERWAY — EARLY FINDINGS RAISE CONCERNS Canada’s Senate Human Rights Committee is currently conducting a major national study on antisemitism, gathering testimony from experts, community leaders, and officials across the country. 📊 Early evidence presented to the committee points to a sharp rise in incidents: • Toronto hate crimes reportedly up ~93% since Oct 7 • Vancouver up ~62% year-over-year • In Ottawa, Jews make up ~1.4% of the population but ~27% of hate incidents 🧠 The study is examining: • The scope and causes of antisemitism in Canada • The role of social media and radicalization • Whether current laws and enforcement are sufficient • How antisemitism should be defined (IHRA vs alternative definitions) ⚖️ Witnesses have described the situation as a growing national concern, with debate over where the problem is coming from and how best to address it. 📌 The study is ongoing — a final report with recommendations is expected at a later stage. -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/H2oH2yD6OhP34toRYH8G0t?mode=gi_t

🎤 Dr. Yehuda Sabiner at the J2J Expo Dr. Yehuda Sabiner — a Gerrer chossid from Bnei Brak who will soon be beginning a residency at SickKids — shared a powerful and deeply moving story. After October 7th, while serving in the IDF, he found himself alone on a Leil Shabbos. Not wanting to draw attention or impose his standards on others, he quietly made kiddush to himself. Suddenly, his battalion commander approached him. “What are you doing?” “I just made kiddush,” he replied. The commander reacted sharply: “You self-centered chossid — you think we don’t want to hear kiddush? Make kiddush for all of us!” Dr. Sabiner then made kiddush aloud for the entire group. But the commander wasn’t finished. “Now tell us a dvar Torah on the parsha!” It was Parshas Vayeitzei — and he had to think fast. Baruch Hashem, he recalled a vort from his rebbi: Chazal teach that the stones placed around Yaakov Avinu’s head began arguing — each one wanting the zechus to support the head of the tzaddik. In the end, they were miraculously fused into one stone. But why didn’t the argument continue within that single stone — each “part” still wanting the honour? The answer is: when you truly become one, there is no more jealousy, no more fighting. Achdus removes machlokes. A message that couldn’t be more fitting for the J2J Expo — where Yidden from all walks of life came together with one shared goal: to support and uplift one another. We don’t all have to look the same, live the same lives, or walk the same paths — whether chassidish, professional, or in uniform. But we must remember: Klal Yisroel is one guf. When one Yid is in pain or in need, helping them isn’t helping someone else — it’s helping ourselves.

To mention or not to mention God in Israel’s Declaration of Independence When Israel’s Declaration of Independence was being drafted in 1948, a major debate broke out: 👉 Should Hashem be mentioned explicitly? On one side, religious Zionist leaders like Rabbi Yehuda Leib Maimon insisted that a Jewish state must include a reference to Elokei Yisrael. On the other side, secular leaders — led by David Ben-Gurion — opposed any mention of God. Aharon Zisling, a leading figure in the far-left socialist Mapam party, was so strongly against it that he reportedly refused to sign if Hashem were explicitly mentioned. The disagreement threatened to derail both the drafting and the ceremonial proclamation of the establishment of a Jewish state in the former British Mandate of Palestine. Ben-Gurion spent the morning of May 14 mediating between the sides. After hours of talks, a compromise was reached — without a formal vote. The declaration would include the carefully worded phrase: ▎ מתוך בטחון בצור ישראל אנו חותמים בחתימת ידינו לעדות על הכרזה זו… “Placing our trust in the Rock of Israel, we affix our signatures to this Proclamation…” Later, Ben-Gurion explained the ambiguity: ▎ “Each one of us, in his own way, believes in the ‘Rock of Israel’ as he understands it.” • The religious side understood it as a reference to Hashem • The secular side could interpret it as the strength or destiny of the Jewish people 🇺🇸 An interesting parallel: Even the United States Declaration of Independence — in a country that would later enshrine separation of church and state — openly references God multiple times, including “Creator” and “Divine Providence.” The founders clearly saw no contradiction between acknowledging God and building a state that does not enforce religion. A reminder that until Moshiach comes, the story of Klal Yisroel in Golus is not yet complete.

🚨 SPLC Indicted — Serious Questions, Including Here in Canada The Southern Poverty Law Center — a U.S.-based group known for tracking and exposing hate and extremist organizations — has been indicted by the U.S. DOJ on fraud-related charges tied to its use of paid informants inside those same circles. 🔎 What’s being alleged: • Over $3 million paid to individuals inside extremist networks • At least one payment reportedly near $1M to a single individual • Payments to organizers of the 2017 Unite the Right rally ⚖️ The core issue: The DOJ claims the SPLC misled donors about how funds were being used. 👉 Translation: An organization that built its reputation fighting extremism is now accused of paying people within those same circles — raising serious ethical and transparency concerns. 🗣️ Some commentators, including Ben Shapiro, are going further, alleging that groups like the SPLC may effectively prop up the very extremism they claim to fight, comparing it to firefighters setting a blaze only to “heroically” put it out. 🇨🇦 Why this should raise eyebrows in Canada The Canadian Anti-Hate Network — a Canadian organization focused on "tracking extremism and advising on anti-hate efforts" — • Was modeled after the SPLC • Has worked with and drawn from its research • Receives Canadian taxpayer funding 👉 That raises fair questions: Are similar tactics being used here? What level of oversight and transparency exists? Should taxpayer-funded groups be operating with this kind of model? -- 🗞️ JOIN THE TORONTO SCOOP, TORONTO'S FASTEST GROWING WHATSAPP GROUP & STATUS: https://chat.whatsapp.com/H2oH2yD6OhP34toRYH8G0t?mode=gi_t
