The ongoing battle over New York City’s congestion pricing toll returned to court today, with the MTA and the Trump administration facing off before a federal judge.
The dispute centers on the $9 toll to enter Manhattan below 60th Street. The judge is being asked to rule on the case before it goes to trial, a decision that could determine whether the toll stays in place.
The case stems from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s move to revoke approval of the program shortly after it launched. The MTA challenged that decision in court and has kept the tolls active while the case proceeds.
State and transit officials continue to defend congestion pricing, while federal officials opposing it say the toll unfairly impacts drivers. Toll increases are still scheduled for future years if the program survives the legal challenge.
