Security forces prevented a car-ramming and stabbing attack near the Hizma checkpoint, located on the outskirts of Jerusalem, authorities said Wednesday. The suspect, a 50-year-old resident of Qalandia, was apprehended as part of an investigation carried out by the Jerusalem District Central Unit.
The man was detained nine days earlier following a collision at an entrance to Jerusalem. When police searched his vehicle, they discovered several knives along with military-style clothing linked to a terrorist organization.

Investigators say the suspect had spent months preparing a combined attack involving both vehicle-ramming and stabbing at the Hizma checkpoint. According to the probe, he outfitted his vehicle with forged license plates and stocked it with knives on the day he intended to act, but the traffic accident disrupted his plan and led to his capture.
Police also arrested the suspect’s son after officers searching the family home found incitement materials, Hamas flags, headbands associated with terror groups, and photographs of terrorists. The son is now under investigation for holding items intended to facilitate a terror attack, and his detention has been extended.
