Fresh Snowfall Blankets New York City as Meteorologists Warn of Another Storm Ahead

Feb 16, 2026·2 min read

Winter-weary New Yorkers started their Monday with a new layer of snow; and forecasters say an even bigger round could arrive in about a week.

Most neighborhoods across the city picked up at least an inch overnight, while some parts of Long Island collected more than two inches. This came even as old, grimy piles of snow from storms weeks earlier still clutter streets and sidewalks.

“Pretty impressive little quick-hitting storm today,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Alex DaSilva told The NY Post, noting that another system may develop exactly a week from now, sometime between Sunday and next Monday.

“It looks like there could be a coastal storm that may try to form during that time. It’s way too early to talk about any kind of amounts or anything like that. And it’s still possible that the storm could go safely out to sea,” DaSilva said.

Thankfully, temperatures are expected to climb into the 40s on Monday. For the rest of the week, conditions should mostly stay above freezing; welcome news for anyone tired of navigating lingering snowbanks.

“So through this week, highs and lows above freezing should be able to melt some of that dirty snow that we’re seeing across the city,” DaSilva said.

He added that although the city may not see every last pile disappear – some mounds are simply too big – a significant portion should melt away by Friday.

Monday morning’s snowfall also didn’t seem to interfere much with local air travel, according to flight-tracking data.
