Belaaz Photos: Brooklyn Jews Trek in Snow Mounds

Feb 23, 2026·2 min read

Photos taken by a Belaaz photographer late Monday morning show mounds of fresh snow in Midwood this afternoon, after the tri-state area was bombarded with a “bomb cyclone” winter storm, which broke into the top 10 largest snowstorms to ever hit the Big Apple.

The last time a full-blown blizzard hit NYC was in 2017.

City officials lifted the citywide travel ban at noon on Monday as the major winter storm that dropped nearly 20 inches of snow across the five boroughs began to ease.

Despite the improved conditions, Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged New Yorkers to remain cautious on the roads.

The ban, issued Sunday night, barred non-emergency vehicles from all streets, highways, and bridges starting at 9 p.m. It was put in place as heavy snowfall created dangerous travel conditions throughout the city and the wider Tri-State area.

Mamdani said that while the ban is no longer in effect, residents should “exercise caution, travel slowly, and be mindful of others on the road,” noting that slick streets and patches of ice remain a concern.

NYC Snowfall Totals

The powerful storm pushed snowfall amounts into the double digits in many parts of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

In New York City, several neighborhoods approached and reached the 20-inch mark:

Washington Heights: 18.9 inches.

Williamsburg: 20 inches.

Central Park: 19.5 inches.

Staten Island: 2 Feet

In New Jersey:

Jackson – 23.5 inches

Lakewood – 16 inches

Manchester Twp. – 18 inches

Toms River – 12.5 inches

Howell – 18.2 inches

Edison – 17.8 inches

Officials continue to monitor cleanup efforts as crews work to clear remaining snow and restore normal travel conditions across the region.

Power outages were reported in parts of New Jersey, but not in NYC.
