Hamas Adopts New Sea-Smuggling Strategy

Feb 23, 2026·2 min read

Hamas terrorists have shifted their smuggling operations into the Gaza Strip, turning to winter sea currents and cooperating with terrorists in the Sinai Peninsula, Kan reported Monday evening.

According to the report, Hamas has moved away from overland routes and tunnels, adopting a maritime method designed to elude surveillance.

Instead of using tunnels or trucks, the organization now deploys specially weighted containers that drift just below the surface. Hamas believes this technique helps the cargo avoid radar detection by blending into “marine noise” and riding turbulent winter waves. All quotes remain unchanged.

Smuggling teams release these underwater containers roughly five miles off the coast near Sheikh Zweig, exploiting favorable sea conditions. Driven by a two-knot current and concealed by nightfall, the containers typically arrive on the shores of Deir al-Balah and Khan Yunis within ten to fourteen hours.

The operation is coordinated across multiple units working in Sinai, at sea, and inside Gaza. At the same time, decoy drones are flown toward the Israeli-Egyptian border to distract and occupy Israel’s monitoring and interception systems.

This method enables Hamas to bring in crucial supplies for rebuilding its rocket arsenal, including HTPB, a key ingredient used in producing solid rocket fuel that boosts range and stability. The renewed flow of such materials signals an effort to reestablish the organization’s strategic capabilities despite ongoing constraints and countermeasures.
