NYC Snow Totals Climb Toward 21 Inches as Travel Ban Remains in Effect Until Noon
Yisroel R.
New York City has already recorded between 14 and 20 inches of snow from the ongoing blizzard, with totals projected to reach up to 21 inches citywide. Snow bands continue moving across the region, and another round of accumulation is expected through the afternoon, adding several more inches in some areas.
Road conditions remain hazardous, with reduced visibility and snow-covered streets across all five boroughs. A travel ban for non-essential vehicles remains in effect until noon as crews continue snow removal operations.
Air travel has been severely impacted. As of Monday morning, more than 1,000 flights were canceled at both JFK and LaGuardia, along with hundreds at Newark. Travelers are advised to confirm flight status directly with their airline before heading to the airport, as conditions remain fluid.
Public transit is operating but with modifications. Most subway lines are running with delays and reduced frequency. The L train has experienced significant delays, the C train and Staten Island Railway faced temporary suspensions, and the A train has been running local service. Long Island Rail Road operations have been suspended indefinitely. City buses are running, though service is slower than usual due to the snowy conditions.
Officials recommend checking the MTA website or TrainTime app for real-time updates as snowfall continues and conditions evolve throughout the day.
