Secretary Rubio to Brief Congressional Leaders on Iran as U.S. Weighs Possible Strikes

Feb 24, 2026·1 min read

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is reportedly scheduled to brief congressional leaders later today, Tuesday, about Iran, as President Trump is considering possible military strikes, to two people familiar with the matter told Politico.

The meeting will take place at the White House and will include House and Senate leadership and the top members of the Intelligence Committees. The closed door briefing will take place just a few hours before President Trump will deliver his State of the Union address.

This meeting comes as the Trump administration has significantly increased U.S. military forces in the Middle East amid tensions and so far failed talks with Iran. Trump publicly warned of severe consequences if no agreement is reached with Tehran on its nuclear enrichment program, with some lawmakers pushing for a congressional vote on a resolution requiring approval before any use of force against Iran.
