Antisemitic Threats in Paris Ahead Of Mayoral Race

Feb 24, 2026·1 min read

Paris’s 19th arrondissement was the site of a troubling antisemitic incident in which an elderly Jewish woman was verbally attacked by activists from the far-left party LFI, according to a Tuesday report by Europe1.

The confrontation took place on Sunday during a leaflet distribution effort for the party’s mayoral candidate, Sophia Shikiru. When the activists noticed a mezuzah on the woman’s door and she chose not to open it, they responded with hostility, shouting slurs such as “dirty Jew” and warning, “We’ll be back,” before fleeing.

The woman contacted police immediately and is now considering whether to file a formal complaint. Investigators are reviewing security camera footage from the building’s entrance in hopes of identifying those involved.

This episode occurred amid a broader escalation of antisemitic incidents in the city. Two days earlier, the Cocorico restaurant in the 17th arrondissement was attacked with acid, leaving extensive damage to the floor, dining room, dishes, and furniture. Authorities are investigating that case as well, underscoring growing concern over rising antisemitism in Paris.
