Modi Becomes First Indian PM To Address Knesset, Declares India “Feels Your Pain” After October 7

In a historic and emotional moment in Jerusalem, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first Indian prime minister to receive the honor of addressing the Knesset, Israel’s parliament.

Upon his arrival, lawmakers rose to their feet in a standing ovation as chants of “Modi, Modi” echoed through the chamber.

Standing before Israeli leaders, Modi delivered a message of solidarity that resonated far beyond the room.

“I bring with me the greetings from 1.4 billion Indians. I am very happy to be here again. I carry with me the deepest condolences of the people of India for every life lost and whose world was shattered in the barbaric terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7. We feel your pain. We share your grief. India stands with Israel, firmly, with full conviction, in this moment, and beyond,” Modi declared.

His words came as Israel continues to fight a war against Hamas following the October 7 massacre, the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust.

Modi spoke with moral clarity, stating unequivocally that “no cause can justify the murder of civilians.” He continued, “Nothing can justify terrorism. India has also endured the pain of terrorism for a long time.”

Drawing a direct parallel to Israel’s trauma, Modi referenced the 26 11 Mumbai attacks, when Islamic terrorists carried out coordinated assaults across India’s financial capital, including the murder of Israeli citizens at the Chabad House. “We remember the 26 11 Mumbai attacks and the innocent lives lost, including Israeli citizens. We have a consistent and uncompromising policy of zero tolerance for terrorism with no double standards,” he said.

For Jewish communities around the world, the symbolism was unmistakable. At a time when Israel faces mounting international scrutiny and diplomatic pressure, one of the world’s largest democracies publicly affirmed its unwavering support.

India, home to one of the oldest Jewish communities in the diaspora, has steadily strengthened its strategic and security partnership with Israel over the past decade. Modi’s appearance before the Knesset marked not just a diplomatic milestone, but a powerful declaration that the fight against terrorism is shared.

As chants of his name filled the Israeli parliament, Modi was also honored with a medal of Isdael at The Knesset.
