A Post-blizzard Message from JCP&L

Feb 26, 2026·2 min read

JPC&L:

The Blizzard of 2026 was one of the most challenging winter storms our region has faced in years.

More than 170,000 JCP&L customers lost power, and we understand how difficult and frustrating it was to spend long, cold hours without power. Electricity is essential to everyday life – from keeping homes warm to powering work, school and family activities – and outages during extreme weather are especially disruptive.

Thank you for your patience as our crews worked through severe conditions to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

When the weather was its fiercest, JCP&L crews – along with contractors and support from our FirstEnergy sister companies in Ohio and Pennsylvania – responded with urgency and care. On Monday alone, nearly 160,000 customers had power restored. And within just 36 hours of the storm’s end, more than 98% of those affected had their lights back on.

Achieving this progress required difficult and often dangerous work. Forestry crews cleared more than 500 fallen trees, allowing lineworkers to repair dozens of broken poles and miles of downed wires. We commend them for working safely to get everyone back up and running as fast as possible.

We also want to recognize the families of our employees for their support behind the scenes. They truly are the unsung heroes during events like this.

While blizzards of this magnitude were once rare, major weather events have become increasingly common in New Jersey. That’s why we remain committed to #EnergizeEveryday. Last year, we invested more than $1 billion in electric system upgrades, and we plan to invest an additional $5.6 billion over the next five years to strengthen reliability and resiliency – always with affordability in mind.

Thank you again for your patience, understanding and resilience throughout this storm. We’ll continue working to reinforce our system and be there when you need us most.

Stay warm. Stay safe.
