El Al Launches Preparation for Rescue Flights Once Airport Resumes Operation
As the conflict triggered by coordinated military action against Iran enters its third day, the fallout in civilian travel has been immense, with airspace closures across the region leading to flight cancellations and stranding passengers worldwide. In response, El Al is launching a massive operation to help bring Israelis back home as soon as Ben Gurion Airport resumes operations.

El Al announced that it has halted new flight bookings until March 21 or until all current ticket holders are accommodated, prioritizing those who have already booked travel plans and were disrupted by the conflict. El Al has also prepared rescue flights to operate when Israeli air traffic control gives the go-ahead, with priority given to passengers holding existing El Al tickets, which will be automatically rebooked and notified with new flight details. The airline is offering refunds and vouchers to those whose travel was canceled due to the hostilities.
El Al is also checking the feasibility of operating flights in and out of Egypt, citing security concerns and other logistical complications. Arkia, a different Israeli airline, is already operating such flights from Taba to Larnaca, Athens, and Rome.
