Iranian Strikes Ignite Fire at Saudi Oil Giant as Regional Tensions Explode
Iran strikes across the region Monday hit Saudi Arabia’s largest oil refinery, Aramco, igniting a fire in the facility. While the fire has been put out and the situation remains under control, the facility has been shut down as a precautionary measure.
“A limited fire resulted from falling shrapnel during the interception operation, with no civilian casualties,” a spokesman for Saudi Arabia’s press agency said. Aramco is Saudi Arabia’s largest oil company and one of the largest in the world. The press agency said two Iranian drones hit the facility, resulting in a small fire.
Aramco is located in the Ras Tanura complex on the Gulf coast. The complex processes 550,000 barrels of oil and is the main terminal for exporting crude oil.
On Sunday, Saudi Arabia intercepted Iranian missiles headed for the international airport in Riyadh and Prince Sultan Airbase, which houses U.S. troops.
Iran’s latest strikes come amid a wider campaign against countries in the region. The authoritarian regime has already struck Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Manama and the commercial area of Duqm in Oman, disrupting major shipping centers in the United Arab Emirates and Oman,
As a result of these strikes, oil prices have jumped around the world, affecting people at the gas pump.
