HELP DESPERATELY NEEDED! Gulf Allies Warn Missile Defenses Running Low

Mar 5, 2026·2 min read

Arab Gulf countries are running very low on interceptors, according to officials from the region who spoke to CBS Thursday. They have asked the United States to expedite the shipment of more supplies and were told that the U.S. has created a task force to handle the problem. However, the officials said the process is moving too slowly.

Iran has thus far launched hundreds of drones and missiles, complicating the situation and prompting Arab leaders to conclude that Iran’s purpose in attacking both allies and hostile countries in the region is to cause them to pressure the U.S. to back down from its attacks.

On Wednesday, Air Force Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, dismissed concerns about shortages of interceptors and other types of ammunition. He said at a press conference that the U.S. has enough “precision munitions for the task at hand, both on the offense and defense.”

Regional officials said that the lack of U.S. ambassadors in the Middle East has made communication difficult. In addition to not sending ambassadors to Lebanon, Jordan and Qatar since the start of his second term, President Donald Trump has yet to appoint ambassadors to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, who are working instead with a chargé d’affaires (an interim ambassador).

Moreover, the National Security Council and State Department are spread thin, with fewer staff members than is usual. While Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff and Middle East adviser Jared Kushner have served as envoys to the Middle East, they do not manage the relationships with individual countries.
