Toronto Police Tell Jewish Community Not to Rely on Police Protection After Synagogues Shot Up (VIDEO)
Toronto’s Jewish community is on edge after multiple synagogues were targeted by gunfire in a series of antisemitic attacks over the past week.
Gunmen opened fire on two synagogues overnight in the Toronto area, with bullets striking buildings in North York and Thornhill. Authorities are also investigating a third shooting earlier in the week at Temple Emanu El in North York, marking the third attack on Jewish houses of worship in less than a week. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incidents.
According to reports circulating within the community, local Jewish leaders were told they cannot rely solely on police for protection and should strengthen their own security measures amid the rising threat environment.
Police confirmed that shell casings and gunfire damage were found at one synagogue entrance, and investigators from the Hate Crime Unit and the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force are now involved in the investigation. Authorities say the attacks have heightened fear within Toronto’s Jewish community as antisemitic incidents continue to rise.

Canadian officials have condemned the shootings as antisemitic acts of intimidation, while federal and local law enforcement say they are working to identify those responsible. Investigations into the attacks remain ongoing.
