‘NOTHING LEFT’: Trump Says Iran’s Military Is Crumbling as War Nears End
It’s too late now for President Donald Trump to beat his record 12-day war with Iran during this round, but he has expressed confidence that he can come close. In an interview with CBS News Monday, the president said that Iran is depleting its military assets and that the end of combat operations is nearing. He also said the campaign was running ahead of schedule.
Trump had previously said that while the war was expected to last four to five weeks, “we have the capability to go far longer than that.”
“I think the war is very complete, pretty much,” Trump said in Monday’s interview. The authoritarian regime has “no navy, no communications, they’ve got no air force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones.”
“If you look, they have nothing left,” he said. “There’s nothing left in a military sense.”
The Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20 percent of the world’s oil is shipped, remained closed, but Trump said he is “thinking about taking it over.”
The market and oil prices responded positively to Trump’s statements, with the former rising and the latter dropping.
Trump said Friday in a Truth Social post that the time for negotiation had passed and he would accept nothing less than Iran’s complete surrender.
“There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!” he wrote. “After that, and the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s), we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before. IRAN WILL HAVE A GREAT FUTURE. ‘MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN (MIGA!).'”
“Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he concluded in his usual manner.
