200 ROCKETS IN ONE NIGHT: Hezbollah Barrage Pounds Northern Israel

Mar 12, 2026·4 min read

Hezbollah pounded northern Israel with repeated rocket fire for hours Wednesday night, launching about 200 rockets in all, the largest number in one day — surpassing its previous record of 100 in one day. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps joined in what it said was a coordinated attack, launching missiles toward central Israel. It was a tough night for Israelis in northern Israel, as the constant barrage kept them running for shelter.

About 80 Hezbollah rockets failed to land in Israel, and the Iron Dome intercepted most of the rest, along with the missiles launched from Iran. However, some Hezbollah rockets did land and explode, injuring two people, a 50-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, according to emergency responders, who said the injuries occurred when a rocket struck a home in the town of Bi’ina. The rescue workers said they also treated four people at the scene for severe anxiety.

A home in Moshav Haniel in central Israel also sustained a hit, which caused damage to the home but no injuries.

Hezbollah opened fire at about 8 p.m. with 100 rockets, then continued with about 100 more over the course of hours into early Thursday morning, triggering alarms in Nahariya, parts of the Western Galilee and northern Haifa, and Acre. Its long-range rockets reached deeper into Israel, triggering alerts in Tel Aviv and nearby towns. Meanwhile, the coordinated Iranian missile launches set off sirens in central Israel, the Jerusalem area, the north and parts of the south.

In response, the IDF hit back with strikes against Hezbollah strongholds in southern Beirut, destroying about 50 rocket launchers and 10 Hezbollah command posts. The military warned that if Lebanon could not or would not prevent Hezbollah from firing at Israel, the IDF would do it for them by targeting civilian infrastructure in the deserted southern villages.

“In a broad series of strikes, the IDF located and destroyed dozens of launchers and Hezbollah terrorists who were planning to fire rockets toward the territory of the State of Israel,” the IDF posted in a social media statement. “The IDF struck 10 buildings in Dahiyeh used as terror headquarters within half an hour, including intelligence headquarters, the headquarters of the Radwan Unit, and additional headquarters.”

The military emphasized that “The IDF will continue to act with force against the terror organization Hezbollah, which decided to join the campaign and operate under the auspices of the Iranian terror regime, and will not allow harm to the civilians of the State of Israel.”

While the IDF expected a heavy assault on Wednesday from Iran and Hezbollah and issued warnings to that effect, the military expressed regret for not giving enough advance notice to residents of northern Israel, explaining such notifications present a dilemma, as they betray military plans to the enemy.

The IRGC called the mission a “joint and integrated operation” coordinated with Hezbollah to strike about 50 targets in Israel.

Israel’s defense minister Israel Katz issued a sharply worded warning to Lebanon’s government, saying that if Lebanon still proves ineffective against Hezbollah, Israel will take matters into its own hands.

“I warned the president of Lebanon that if the Lebanese government does not know how to control the territory and prevent Hezbollah from threatening the northern communities and firing toward Israel, we will take the territory and do it ourselves,” he said during a military assessment, adding that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “instructed the IDF to prepare for an expansion of IDF activity in Lebanon and to restore calm and security to the northern communities.”
