Lakewood Police Increase Patrols Following Incident in Michigan
The Lakewood Police Department is aware of the developing incident reported at Temple Israel Synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, involving reports of a vehicle ramming and active shooter situation.
While authorities in Michigan continue their investigation and response, the Lakewood Police Department is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining communication with our law enforcement partners.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Lakewood Police Department has increased patrols throughout the township, with particular attention to houses of worship, schools, and areas where large numbers of residents gather. Members of the department’s Special Response Team have also been deployed to assist with enhanced security measures.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the congregation of Temple Israel and the entire West Bloomfield community during this difficult time,” said Chief Gregory Meyer. “While there are currently no known threats to our community, we are taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of our residents. With Passover right around the corner, we want our residents focused on spending time with family and celebrating the holiday with peace of mind.”
Captain LeRoy Marshall, Commander of the Lakewood Police Department’s Special Response Team and the department’s Homeland Security Liaison, emphasized the importance of preparedness and maintaining a visible presence.
“In times like this, a strong and visible police presence is important,” said Captain Marshall. “We are coordinating with our federal, state, and county law enforcement partners and will continue our increased patrols throughout the community to ensure the safety and security of our residents.”
The Lakewood Police Department encourages residents to remain aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity immediately by contacting the Lakewood Police Department.
