IDF Strikes Deep: Israeli Forces Hit Iranian Fleet in Caspian Sea Blitz

Mar 19, 2026·1 min read

The IDF posted details of its overnight strikes on the Iranian naval fleet in the Caspian Sea Thursday. The military struck targets in the port city of Bandar Anzali and the Caspian Sea, destroying naval facilities as well as ships. Some of the ships were at port and some were at sea when they were struck.

The IDF said it destroyed an Iranian Navy corvette, four missile boats, several support ships, guard boats, a command center and a shipyard. While the missile boats in the Caspian Sea do not pose a direct threat to Israel, the military said that it destroyed them as part of its larger mission to degrade and weaken Iran’s military. The missile boats do possess some capabilities that could threaten Israel, however, such as anti-aircraft and anti-submarine systems.

The strikes were planned only a few days in advance, as they were not part of the original mission. The naval intelligence division, the military intelligence directorate, and the air force collaborated in planning the operation and locating the targets.

The IDF said that this was its first time operating in this northern region of Iran, not only in this operation, but also in previous military campaigns.
