IDF Investigation Finds Misgav Am Civilian Killed by Misfired Israeli Artillery During Lebanon Operation, Not Hezbollah Attack
An internal IDF investigation has determined that 60-year-old Ofer Moskovitz, killed yesterday in the northern community of Misgav Am, was struck by Israeli artillery fire—not a Hezbollah attack as initially suspected.
According to findings led by Northern Command head Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo, the shells were part of support fire aimed at assisting troops operating in southern Lebanon. However, a series of significant operational failures led to the rounds being misfired.

The probe identified critical errors in both planning and execution, noting the artillery was launched at an incorrect trajectory and in violation of standard procedures. As a result, five shells landed on the Misgav Am ridge rather than intended enemy targets.
Military officials described the incident as highly severe, emphasizing that the fire was meant to protect Israeli forces but instead caused a fatal outcome.
The IDF has notified Moskovitz’s family, expressing deep regret and extending condolences to both the family and the local community. A follow-up investigation will be conducted, with the military pledging full transparency in sharing its findings with the family and, subsequently, the public.
