Commuters across New York City are beginning to see a redesigned version of the MTA’s official transit app, as the agency rolls out a major update aimed at making it easier to navigate trains and buses.
According to the MTA, the app has been rebuilt with a stronger focus on real-time accuracy and usability. The updated version is designed to load faster, provide clearer arrival times, and work more reliably underground, where service has often been inconsistent in the past.
One of the most noticeable changes is the display of wait times directly next to each train and bus line, allowing riders to quickly see how long they’ll be waiting without opening additional menus. A new feature also allows users to switch travel direction with a single tap, making it easier to check routes going the opposite way.
The app’s status section has also been expanded to include elevator and escalator outages, along with suggested alternatives for riders who need accessible stations. The map feature remains in place, continuing to use location services to show nearby subway stops and transit options.
The updated MyMTA app is currently available to some users, with a wider rollout expected in the coming weeks. This marks the third major update to the app since 2023, as the agency continues efforts to improve the commuting experience across the city.
