Community Board 12 Releases Sreifas Chametz Map and Guidelines Ahead of Pesach
By Y.M. Lowy
As Pesach quickly approaches, Community Board 12 has released a set of coordinated guidelines aimed at helping the preparation run more smoothly and safely in Boro Park.
The information follows a joint meeting held with city agencies and local organizations, including the NYPD, FDNY, Sanitation Department, Hatzolah, Shomrim, and Chaverim. With large crowds and heavy cleanup during Sreifas Chametz, planning ahead is key.
Fire safety remains a major focus. The FDNY emphasized that fires must be handled carefully, noting that if any injuries occur, a fire will be fully put out and not allowed to be restarted.
Residents are also reminded that burning should only take place until the cutoff time of 11:44 a.m., and that only chametz should be placed into the fire.
Sanitation services are also being adjusted to meet the increased demand. Bulk garbage collection is already underway, and residents are asked to place items out in an orderly way, with recycling tied and mattresses wrapped. Large dumpsters will be placed throughout the neighborhood to help manage the volume.
A special pickup schedule is set for Tuesday night, when sanitation crews will begin collecting garbage and recycling from midnight through early Wednesday morning. Residents are encouraged to place all items out Tuesday night. For convenience, garbage can be left out in bags without using cans, since many households have already put their bins away for Pesach.
Police will also be increasing their presence in the area throughout Yom Tov, especially during the Seder nights. In addition to patrols, officers will be stationed at central locations to assist if needed, though residents are reminded to reserve emergency services for urgent situations.
With Community Board 12 at the helm, working alongside city agencies and local groups, Sreifas Chametz in Boro Park is set to run smoothly.
